  • Kickstand
I met Kickstand a few months back while going for a jog.  I had seen him sitting on one of the benches in the local park a few times and decided to finally meet him on this day.  So, I stopped. I recalled he had a book in his hand 20...
  • Walking the Talk
One thing that has really been upsetting me as of late are the e-mails I am getting in my in-box that contain some incredibly “wise” and as we “brilliant ones” call it, “profound” words that were written by philosophers of the Word of God; people who studied the scriptures...
  • Twilight Saga in the church?
A couple months back my daughter went to a youth group function in the church for all the girls. It was supposed to be a fun and enjoyable time; a big sleepover bash. At around 11:30pm the phone rings; it’s my daughter. She proceeds to tell me...

Founder's Note: The Pharisees understood clearly that you were to be taken seriously, especially at the age of 50 and older. In John 8:57, they demanded of Jesus, "Then the Jews said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?" –Steve Shultz, BCN.

Have you bought into the fallacy that life is over after 50, or do you know someone who's over 50 and looking for work? Well, not to worry. CNN has published an article by Ethan Trex of Mental Floss listing an assortment of people who became wildly successful after the age of 50.

They include people like Laura Ingalls Wilder, Jack Cover who invented the Taser, and Ronald Regan who was first elected to public office when he was 55. (Click on the link provided to read Trex's entire list).

Teresa NeumannThe truth is, there are probably tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people who have excelled in their calling late in life. The Bible itself is full of such examples: Abraham, Moses, Aaron, and Joshua, to name just a few.

Just last week, 94-year-old Hazel Soares of San Leandro, California, received her college diploma from Mills College in Oakland. It had been a dream of hers her entire life, but something she couldn't pursue until she was in her 80's.

In a similar vein, Nola Ochs of Kansas graduated from Fort Hays State University at the age of 95 and went on to receive her master's degree this year at the age of 98.

So hang in there, all of you who feel like you're swimming upstream in this economy. Our God often saves the best till last. Trust Him, be patient, and imagine how much more precious you are to Him than the sparrows of the field, or I might add, a jug of wine. After all, didn't Jesus change the water into wine at Cana so that the wedding guests could enjoy the best at the end? If Jesus cared enough to accommodate His mother and bless the wedding guests with a miracle, how much more does He care for you?
